So much of what is written leaves me spellbound. I wish to comment on each letter, each fragment, but cannot all at once. In such a spectacular beginning for love, longing, and devotion, one aches knowing the eventual dissolution. Yet, the publishing is wonderful -- teaching us through lives lived. Merci

David,
I was startled when I first saw this but as I read it I realized that I am not the only person who is trying to figure out why a mother did what she did. Your mother, fortunately for you, was far more eloquent than mine.

Dear Mrs. Tussman:

To my regret, the editorial decision here has been in the negative on THE BROKEN ARCH. The editors liked the first approach (original pages 1-61) better than the complete manuscript, but felt that the latter needed considerably more work.

I am therefore, returning the two manuscripts, under separate cover, and can only express the hope that you will persevere in your efforts to make them into a viable book.

Sincerely,

Edwin Seaver

Wow!
Lorrie has combined the past and the present in this fabulous essay!
This is the hawaii of today with it's ghosts of the past.
The night marchers would be proud to call Lorrie their friend.
There is a local family - who still own a small part of honokawai, I was there a week or so ago, south of napiili, A hawaiian, or combination of hawaiian was raking leaves - they have barbed wired off this small area so no haole's can pass.
I ask permission, explain i am an artist, and that this grove of palm trees are some of the most beautiful in the whole state.
I take pictures, talk with the friendly hawaiian woman.
She thinks I might be portugese so lets me in...
Oh beautiful Hawai'i - and what you have become -
It is amazing what Lorrie has caught with pen and Paper;
Thank god this is saved!
David! I know you are proud; your mother was a genius!
Like you!

Dear Mrs. Tussman:

Thank you for your lettter of the sixth. Yes, I would very much like to see your manuscript when you think it is ready. Perhaps as you "rework it a bit" the unity you require will become more apparent.

Incidentally, although you stated in your original letter that our publishing Vahanian's The Death of God led you to think of us as possible publishers for your own book you said nothing of your particular background or academic or professional concern. Perhaps when you have a moment you will write me about this,

Sincerely,

Edwin Seaver

What a wonderful tribute to a truly talented and sensitive woman. Bless you for taking the time to build these pages so Lorrie's heart, mind, and soul can be felt by others. There is much to be learned by reading these pages. Thank You!

Dear Mrs. Tussman:

You may recall that almost a year ago I wrote you that I had read the early chapters of your book, The Broken Arch, which you were kind enough to send me and that I was looking forward to reading further chapters.

What I read interested me very much. I wonder if you have gone further with the book and, if so, I might see more of the manuscript?

Sincerely,

Edwin Seaver
